Code 3 Counseling has partnered with Heal Together to bring you this support group for first responder couples experiencing infertility
First responder couples face many challenges uncommon to other relationships. One thing many couples struggle with is infertility, and how to face it when the job already takes its toll on the relationship.
That is why we have partnered with Heal Together and the counseling team at Coastal Kids Home Care to bring you a support group for first responder couples. This group will be led by our culturally competent and clinically trained clinicians from Code 3 Counseling, Alisha Sweyd and Liz Durfee.
The group will last 5 weeks and will cover a range of topics to help both partners better understand how to to process what they are experiencing.
Topics will include: what it looks like to grieve the dreams you had, how infertility stress impacts relationships and how to manage it, how to respond thoughtfully to people who say things that hurt (even when they are intending to be kind), and many more difficult issues couples face.
Support Group Values
Supportive
The goal of this group is to provide first responder couples with a space to process the difficulties of a life in service mixed with the challenges of infertility. Our hope is to connect couples in a genuine and understanding relationship with other couples.
Confidential
The group highly values the confidentiality of its members. What is said in the group stays in the group. Group members are not allowed to discuss conversations from sessions with people outside of the group without permission.
Security & Protection
All potential members are screened to ensure they are who they say they are. The security of our responders and their families is of the utmost importance.
Educational
While responders go through vigorous training to serve, the relationship did not. In this group, we will discuss topics around infertility and the unique challenges of first responder couples. We will also share resources to assist with daily struggles.
In-Person
This group is to meet in person in Monterey County to provide a safe space for connection and understanding. Due to the complex nature of this topic, the group will not be available virtually.
